But that’s exactly what is happening. Read this extract from a report in The Indian Express,
Shiv Sena on Tuesday asked politicians to show ‘restraint’ in reacting to incidents in Mumbai warning that the move to whip up anti outsider feelings had danger of snowballing into a major issue.
“I will counsel political leaders from all sides to be restrained in their reactions”, Senior Sena member and Former Lok Sabha speaker Manohar Joshi said in Rajya Sabha.
I pinched myself hard…not once, but twice to make sure that I was not dreaming. The party whose very existence hinges on it’s violent nature, is talking about peace, restraint, blah…blah…blah. These retards were the very guys who stoked violence against the migrants in the 1960s. Hypocrites!
So, I would suggest one thing to all the political parties in India: first decide what you stand for and then stick to it, no matter what the consequences. At least this will lend them some credibility. I must appreciate the Communists here, no matter how rusted their ideologies are, they stand by them, to the utter disgust of everyone else (the nuclear deal, for example). Heh.

For those who don’t, here’s the dope: The Liberhan Commission was set up in 1993 to probe the circumstances leading to the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya on 6th December 1992. This one-man panel was expected to submit it’s report within three months.
So, what happened later? Well, the Commission today got it’s 44th extension. Imagine, 44th! This whole sham has been going on for 15 years and it has incurred an expenditure of more than Rs 7 crore so far. The term of the Commission will now end on April 3, 2008.
Ironical, isn’t it? Even the secular government currently in power can’t get the job done. A few years down the line, you will be reading that this Commission has got it’s 100th extension. All I want to say is, don’t be surprised when that happens.

I recently received an email from the eternal jokers, whom we affectionately call ‘Bigots’. This email is from Arindam Thapar.
Here I have copied that email.
Namaskar
This is an awareness drive to awake people to boycott movie ‘Jodhaa Akbar’.
The movie Jodhaa Akbar is a vile, vicious, and covert attempt by a mischievous producer/director from Bollywood (Mumbai) to make quick bucks by denigrating and vilifying the Hindu (Rajput) people. Sonia’s (Antonia Maino) Congress government promptly banned ‘Da Vinci Code’ movie after Christians’ protest, but this Secular (?) government is so insensitive about Hindus protest about ‘Jodhaa-Akbar’ !
Visit – http://www.hindujagruti.org/news/3815.html to -
- Know true story of Cruel Akbar and Jodhaabai
- Know the people behind this conspiracy (The movie crew)
- View glimpses of protests
Send this mail to your friends for creating awareness and protecting self-respect.
Shameful Hindus who throng to watch Jodhaa-Akbar, a film which glorifies Hindu hater Cruel Akbar, are worthy of getting killed by Terrorists!
Huh? Conspiracy of the movie crew? What’s conspiratorial in that movie? If I have heard correctly, there was a disclaimer at the beginning of the movie stating that multiple versions of this story exist. The ‘movie crew’ has presented one of those versions.
And yes, Cruel Akbar? I was taught in school that he was quite a secular guy. Heh. Guess I will just have to re-learn everything from our ‘Bigot’ friends.
And it gets even better. On the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti website, the following table is provided,
Read carefully the crew of movie:
| Director |
Ashutosh Gowariker |
| Producer |
Ashutosh Gowariker, Ronnie Screwvala |
| Cast |
Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai |
| Story |
Haidar Ali |
| Screen Play |
Haidar Ali and Ashutosh Gowarikar |
| Religious and Culture Advisor |
Omar Khayyam Saharanpuri |
| Music |
A. R. Rahman |
| Lyrics |
Javed Akhtar |
You get what they want to say, don’t you? But I see only Indians in that table. No one else.
I was going to see this movie very soon. So, basically I am a ‘Shameful Hindu’ and I would request our terrorist friends to come and kill me because my ‘Bigot’ friends think I am worthy of just that. Heh.

PTI reports,
An outfit led by a Banaras Hindu University professor on Sunday announced a reward of Rs one crore to anyone who slaps Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray in public.
The North Indian-Marathi Unity Front floated by BHU political science professor Kaushal Kishore Mishra has also urged the people to come out in large numbers against the inflammatory statements made by Thackeray against north Indians and the “hooliganism” of MNS activists.
Swell! Indian politics never fails to entertain us. Far more entertaining than Bollywood. What say?

Disclaimer: If at some point in this small post, you find me rambling about stupid things, do forgive me. I am just getting increasingly frustrated by the games our politicians are playing nowadays!
Here is an excerpt from an Indian Express report,
As to resorting to MNS workers indulging in violence and the law and order situation arising out of it, Raj said, “we had to take to the street so that North Indians did not damage the law and order situation permanently. Even Gandhi, Bhagat Singh had to break the law”.
Huh? This goonda called Raj Thackeray is comparing himself to Mahatma Gandhi and Bhagat Singh! Heh. He is growing more mental by the day. Please let us forget about arresting him again. Let’s get him to a mental hospital first.
Ahem…one more thought. This statement by Raj Thackeray is an insult to the nation. Yes, let’s burn his effigy. Yes, let’s stone his house. And then again, let’s declare a bandh. An all-India bandh. Heh. That’s what we do nowadays, isn’t it? The uncivilised people that we are becoming. Ask poor Sania Mirza.

UNI reports,
19 bar girls arrested for obscenity
MUMBAI: Police have arrested 19 bar girls on charges of obscenity and serving customers beyond the stipulated time in a beer bar at Andheri here.
Acting on tip-off, the police raided the bar at around 23:05 hours on Thursday and arrested the bar girls who were found wearing skimpy dresses, police said.
The security guards at the bar and four to five male waiters tried to obstruct police personnel from discharging their duty.
Police said cases of obscenity have been registered against the bar girls while the others have been booked for obstructing government officials from discharging their duties.
Fine, it’s the law. The police have only discharged their duty. But this law sucks, don’t you think? A few thoughts crop up in my naive mind over this issue. I have listed them below.
Firstly, the bar girls, as we all know, are not there because they want to be there. Probably it’s their economic condition that forces them to do this sort of thing.
Secondly, obscenity you say? Skimpy clothes? Ever seen Mallika Sherawat grooving to those ‘item numbers’? Of course you have, those ‘item numbers’ are telecast all day on television, aren’t they? Even ‘innocent’ children see them. But no, that is not obscene, is it? When some poor bar girls do the same thing in a bar (in which ‘innocent’ children are not allowed, for sure) it suddenly becomes obscene. Huh? How?
I am not saying that we should ban ‘item numbers’ from being telecast on television (that sort of censorship is most retrograde), I am just saying that we need more sensible laws. If you really want to stop the bar girls from doing ‘obscene’ acts, why not rehabilitate them? Arresting them is not going to benefit anyone, is it?
Of course, I maybe wrong in my analysis of this issue, so your comments are, as always, most welcome.

Update (February 13, 2008):
Raj Thackeray, Abu Azmi arrested and are released on bail. No surprise.
And this is so reminiscent of the Partition: Many North Indian migrants flee Nasik
February 12, 2008:
OK, this is getting real serious now. Incidents of violence have broken out in many parts of Maharashtra like Nasik, and also in Pune, where I live. Most of the shops in my locality have been closed and there are police patrolling the streets. Sigh.
And Raj Thackeray hasn’t even been arrested yet. Imagine what’s going to happen when that happens. We have such a weak-kneed State Government. It can’t deal even with a small party like the MNS! Yes, when compared to the Shiv Sena, the MNS is like a pygmy. From the past few days the government is preparing to arrest Raj Thackeray. And it still is. Heh.
Here are a few headlines for today:
Centre sends more force to Maharashtra- What are the local police doing? Sleeping? We are not fighting against the Chinese Army, just a gang of stupid fanatics. Whom is the government fooling? It is just buying time.
Violence in Nasik, 26 MNS workers detained- Only 26?
Raj Thackeray not to seek anticipatory bail: MNS- No one asked him to. Rot in jail, sucker!
Thackeray’s family supports his crusade- No surprise here. If they don’t, Raj Thackeray will probably kick them out of his house! Good decision.
Bihari barbers, carpenters flee Pune fearing MNS attack- Oops! Now where can I get a hair cut?
And finally, some reality check: Migrant labourers much in demand- Is Thackeray listening?

Update (February 11, 2008):Raj booked for inciting violence, arrest likely
February 10, 2008:
This is what Raj Thackeray wrote in a special article written by him in the Marathi daily Maharashtra Times,
Even if the whole world opposes my stand, I and my party will continue the struggle to protect Marathi culture, Maharashtrian people and will trample the goondaism of UP and Bihar.
Err…do correct me if I am wrong here. As far as I know Raj Thackeray has never won an election. So who tasked him with protecting Marathi culture? Who is he representing?
Meanwhile, PTI reports,
In a sign that Shiv Sena is worried over its former leader Raj Thackeray ‘hijacking’ its ‘Marathi pride’ plank, Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray has warned that his party will not tolerate workers ‘brought from outside’ for modernisation of Mumbai airport.
“There are going to be one lakh jobs for airport works. If you bring outside workers, then they will be packed off in a parcel and sent back in a cargo plane,” Uddhav said.
Isn’t everything that is happening in clear violation of the Indian Constitution, which grants every Indian citizen the right to go and settle down anywhere in India? Honestly, the debate ends here. The Thackerays and every other rascal who spreads regional and religious intolerance can be put behind bars on the basis of this argument alone.

Don’t you agree? Mumbai is more like a mini-India than it is a part of Maharashtra. In Mumbai, we have people from all parts of India trying to make a living, indirectly contributing towards making it the financial capital of India.
So, here is a thought- Why not make Mumbai a Union Territory and be done with it? Then maniacs like the Thackerays won’t have a chance to hold Mumbai at ransom like they always do. Of course, they will wreak havoc during this process, but we have to face it. This is one of the few practical solutions we have.
One more advantage of this is ‘better administration’. The State Government of Maharashtra concentrates more on Mumbai than other parts of the state. Eventually, this has lead to the underdevelopment of those other parts (remember farmer suicides in Vidharbha?).
So, it’s time we started thinking practically. Making Mumbai a Union Territory will solve most of the problems that are currently being faced by both, Mumbai and Maharashtra.
